At the twelfth BRICS summit held on November 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping spoke via videoconference about the importance of the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform. Researchers from HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge and the Institute for Economics and Regulation of Natural Monopolies are involved in the work of the Platform.

Alexey Lukashkin, a graduate of a cotutelle doctoral programme in philology arranged by HSE University and the Sorbonne, defended his doctoral thesis before the HSE University Dissertation Council in Philology and Linguistics. Students of the Master's programme 'Business and Politics in Modern Asia' now have the opportunity to study in the programme of Ca' Foscari University ‘Language and Management in China' for a year. On completion of their studies, students will get diplomas of both universities.

For the second year in a row, a team representing Brazil won the team-level gold medal of the International Economics Olympiad. Silver was taken by Indonesia’s team, while Russia’s team took bronze. In the assessment of individual participants, Russian participants won three gold medals and two bronze medals.

In the new joint master's programme 'Comparative Russian and Eurasian Politics', which will begin accepting applications in 2021, students will divide their time betwee University College London and HSE University - Saint Petersburg. Upon graduation, students will earn a double degree awarded by both universities. The programme is of interest of those who want to study politics in Russia and the post-Soviet region and gain a deeper knowledge of the area that will equip them for region-related careers or further study at the doctoral level.

This year, four graduates of the 'Economics' programme earned their degrees in the double degree programme track between HSE University - Saint Petersburg and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona. Both universities evaluated the students' work as excellent. Three programme graduates received particular recognition from UPF.

The meeting was held in an online format on the Zoom platform.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, students of the HSE Master's Programme ‘Cognitive Sciences and Technologies: from Neuron to Cognition’ will be able to additionally apply for a continuous Master’s/PhD track. Studying in a single programme, they will participate in the international project iBRAIN, organized by leading European universities.
